As a young teenager Steve’s DJ career started in the mid 60’s playing the exciting Soul, Motown and Ska tracks of the day. As a promoter he then opened the legendary Cloud Nine Club in Peterborough staging the big live acts of the day – Soul Stars such as Jimmy Ruffin, Doris Troy, and Lee Dorsey, alongside Progressive Rock Nights with groups that would become enduring names for decades to follow including Free, Genesis, Mott the Hoople, Argent, Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Curved Air, and Barclay James Harvest.
With a reputation as a DJ who embraced Soul, Rock and the best floor filling party tracks, the 70’s saw Steve appearing as DJ at University and College venues over a wide area supporting Live Bands as diverse as Taste, Stone The Crows, Vinegar Joe, Thin Lizzy, Edgar Broughton, Mud, Sweet, The Bay City Rollers, Heatwave, The Pioneers, Edwin Star, Jimmy James and The Vagabonds and The Real Thing.
His Disco Roadshow was also in demand at RAF Camps and American Air Force bases throughout East Anglia, the East Midlands and The Home Counties playing the funk, disco and dance sounds of the day.
From the late 70’s and through the 80’s Steve performed as both a Club DJ and on the Specialist Jazz Funk scene. His Slickers, and Shindig clubs were essential occasions, and Steve also featured as name DJ at the major All-Dayer Events at throughout East Anglia, The Midlands and the South Coast.
Steve hosted highly regarded Soul and Dance shows on Hereward Radio, Classic Gold, and other ILR stations through the eighties and nineties, also performing then, as now, as DJ at Black Tie Balls, Corporate Events, Marquee Functions, Theme evenings and Charity Occasions.
